A soldier for the Grannoli Family. It is 1931, a vicious and bloody war between the Grannoli and Rogotti families which has lasted 6 months has left the people of Sultant City in fear. Now Don Grannoli is set to get back to business and make the peace with Rogotti and one thing that the old Don has learned is that dead men don't make problems in business.So he has called a meeting with the Sultant City Commission. And he has arranged for you to finally put an end to this conflict.The ScreensFranco Phillipinno's Save HouseAs anybody who has read The Godfather knows that a war usually follows a "hit to the matresses". A run down and dirty apartment where key members hide when in fear of death or when the heat is on. And Franco Phillipinno is no different. Its been a while. Hmm, if you do believe that the mod will take very long, then sure, by all means do so, It would attract more attention the mod, and people will offer idea's and thoughts on your work so far. So yeah, release Part I / Part II / Part III, as you finish each one, cause I am sure we all would love to see Part I.

I am so far 90% done the story on Part I, and I really love it. I really can feel the love you put into this mod, it really has loads of work in it and we thank you for your hard efforts at the best mod i've played yet for Mafia I.The only problem I have is the interior buildings, I am a 3D modeller and I can make you 3D interior sets, take a look at my first Mafia building...(//img707.imageshack.us/img707/1374/forumphoto1.png&key=5b2604abfa99565e252dde9a33927ae84dc2ed4d81a7b5bd25666a652572b590)As you can see with your interior sets looking like this, would make your mod 100x more immersive, and feel like an actual DLC to the main game, and I can build for you what you like no cost or anything like that, just for the good of Mafia modding. You'll love it, It is the best Mafia I mod that I've played yet, but the interiors are bad, as I said in the post 2 weeks ago, if the interiors were equal to like what is in the original Mafia I game, the mod would seriously feel like a DLC.

I started the mod and... I found it very detailed and nice designed. Taking into consideration that only one guy made all this alone I think you deserve to get the game development seriously.Here's a few things I would like changed,added,removed1) add more good cars ( those you usually get from Lucas Bertone)2) try to make better interiors with good textures3) give more detail to the exterior too. For example the house where you live with your family has outside grass but I only can see a green ground. 4)put some pedestrians5) about the streets. You could place the real mafia streets and not just a grey ground as well as put some moving cars6) there are some places outside where 2 buildings are covering each other and it appears very creepy7) Regarding the subtitles make them last a bit longer, sometimes I don't have the time to read them all (//applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=%257BSMILIES_PATH%257D/cool.gif&key=966b6b20dd8e999d179c54cc688c4dbc9db42072c9804007403c6962770d1162)Put some music and city sounds ( I could only hear my footsteps,the gunshots and the music in the bar)9)...keep up the good work. Very detailed C&C thank you Mafioso, I agree with you on your C&C's, of course this is the first release, Ruby will evolve, but even at the current state, I have found no better mod in Mafia I than The Commision Mod.

Ruby, I can build you the interiors, what I do is I make the building design, I render it in AO and Shadows just like how Mafia I buildings are rendered in the storyline, and the model I send you is just a white rendered interior, you can customize it with textures of your choice etc.

You finally solved what was plaguing me for ages (//wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/ohmy.png) I was going crazy trying to find a way to make all the fire escape seen instead of just the bottom (So the player doesn't just walk on thin air when using the fire escape). Thank you Asa!

I know I've been a bit quiet recently guys and galsÃâà  :-[  


 




But I thought I'd just post a quick message to say.


 




"I am not around as much because I now have alot more hours at work and alot less freetime. But still. Just to keep you all informed with a little update. I have nearly finished Mission 3 of Part 2, so all I ask is be patcient  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  I am still working hard on this but I am rather busy these days so I usually work on the mod about an hour/hour and a half each day in total  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad.png" alt="(//frown.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  Not as much time as I'd like to be working on it but unfortunatly I have to allow for other things.


 




So yeah. All is well, the mod is alive. I recommend all of you just go about your business and I'll let you know when I drum out new updates worth hearing  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">


 




The total Commission Mod Part 2 progress is probably around 15 - 20% at the minute.

Backstory of these screens - It is mission 4 of Commission Mod part 2. Franco has been assigned to go back to Sultant City to hit the Ottovella brothers. Two Rogotti family made men, at a smoke shop they use as a hangout.


 




Franco buys his ticket to return to Sultant City.

The mod looks briliant, I enojoyed part I, one of my fav levels was the warehouse of where your getting revenge on the boss of that joint, and the political mans car, and where you save your gang member from captivaty. awesome fun. Just one problem with the mod, one HUGE problem, the interiors are making it hard to sink in to how fantastic the mod really is, the interiors look bad, and that is where for me all the goodies happen. I don't mean to slag or anything like that, just if the interiors were same quality as the storyline in Mafia I, it would probably feel like a big DLC in 2003 if the interiors fitted right.

The trilogy is still being made. I was just saying that I've now decided to go for 4 parts instead of 3. The 4th part will serve as the epilogue.

Seeing as each part is being made individually (step by step as you said) I don't need to worry about new ideas holding up developement as they will simply just be included in the next part. And seeing as the Epilogue will be a new part entirely when Part 3 is released you will already have the whole Commission Mod story anyway. The epilogue will just serve as, well, the epilogue. By one unit i mean one person.I mean that you are taking too much on your back.Team work is always better.


 




Like someone who is a good modeler and designer would model the city,someone would script it,and someone would write a storyline.That way its more fun for team members and people.Cuz its more detailed and team work is always more fun.When you do all alone it may get quite boring because you know whats gonna happen and you are not surprised from anything.




By trying to do 3 pieces you will never be able to focus on one perfectly and never make it very detailed.


 




Anyway its just my opinion.I would never go for a big project like this alone.

Oh don't worry, friend. I WILL finish these other 2 parts. I promise you all that I will.


 




The second part is about half way done now (50%) It should not take too much longer.


 




I am opting for an August/September release date. Of course, it could be shorter or longer than that. I am not sticking to that release date so don't go counting down the days. The only real answer I can give is it will be done when its done. Like I said. It is 50% complete now and I don't plan on rushing anything.

Well, seeing as how the great depression - early 30s is the only era in most mafia games, I would say that I am not against 50s at all. If you have seen Goodfellas, then you know that it was the golden age for gangsters.


 




Anyways, I would rather go back to early 10's actually. This is when early Italian-American migrations happened and this is when some of the first NY 5 families were established. I am kind tied of the same prohibition approach in most mafia games. Well, 50's are good too, The Godfather II was all about 50's/early 60's actually, but it was anoter generaion of mafia so yea, the feel is different.

Ok. So a lot of people who watched my most recent trailer have probably been wondering when "Sooner than you'd think..." is.


 




Well, as you all know that seeing as these are story orientated mods I really can't give much away in terms of updates so's not to spoil things for you.


 




However. Part 2 is nearly done. And so I thought I'd answer the question that Samo asked.


 




"How many % is done?": The mod is now 85% or so completed.


 




So all in all, the release date I am hoping for this mod is the middle of August/Early September.


 




Of course, depending on how much time I invest in the mod over the next few weeks (I am a working man who does 30 hours a week as well as keeping up a social life) it could be more or maybe less.


 




All I ask for is your continued patience  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  You've all been great and given me much support and I thank you all.

Its never too soon to ask this. After all, with the release of CM Part 2 I am now past the halfway mark of what I'd always wanted to achieve  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

Every time, I try to enter hotel, game will just crash durign loading. Hmm...How strange, just tested driving to the hotel and mine worked fine.


 




Silly question. But have either of you two tried running the mod as administrator? Whenever I play mods I always run as administrator.


 




In the meantime, I'll check through the files and see if maybe I've missed something on my end.

I have some bad news again. When I play the mission with the Chinese guy and jump out the window of what's originally Carlo's apartment - the guy just runs a bit to the left, stands still and the cutscene never ends.

I have found another bug which doesnt let me go through.




In MISE42-MESTO1 the guy which i am supposed to deliver the boxes.After i do it a dialog begins.I checked the script and its supposed to set active a cop.But it doesnt set him active.There is no player_lockcontrols 0 or anything and im stuck..




Did anybody else experience this??

I don't think this is a bug. If it continues let me know.


 




You're supposed to remain stationary for a few seconds while the cop walks up behind you and finishes his dialogue. When your controls are unlocked just speak with him.


 




Hope this helps. Of course, if it really is a bug and nothing happens still I will inspect the mission myself for any problems.

I will say it in a longer form..Its a very good mod..Although you rushed it out with release a little bit.




The story was great just like in the first part but there were some not clear parts.




Like,why would Franco risk everything and turn against Morello just because he didnt like the way Morello looks on him?




There could have been a mission where Morello has done him wrong just to clear it out a bit.And in the end why would Morello let him live.Its explained that because of business connections with Granolli.But Granolli would surely understand it if he knew that Franco was about to kill Morello.




If i try not to think about this and try not to see the undetailed scripts its awesome.


 




Maybe you could release 1.1 patch fixing the bugs?For example assasination of Sergio.I didnt even shot him and a dialog appeared saying "fuck.i only wounded him".




But yeah its obvious that it cant be perfect.You have modelled and scripted the whole mod alone after all.That patch would be really helpfull anyway.




But you sayed that you want to realease an alternative ending right?How about making it and fixing the bugs too?I know its a slave and boring work but its necessary in some missions.




But the mod is great  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20"> .Its nice that there are still mods like this being done.

In the hotel mission, after I kill all the cops and get in the car - nothing happens. The police always shoot the driver of the car and I reckon it might have something to do with this - but there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it. Every time I get down off the fire escape, they're blasting him through the windshield with shotguns.

There was a mission in part 1 where Morello wronged him. When you failed the hit on Paulie, Morello and his men beat you to a pulp. And, as explained at the begining of part 2, he held out a massive amount of money from him from the armoured van hiest at the end of part 1.

Also, I cannot seem to steal any cars which makes some missions impossible to solve such as the one where you have to steal a car when you recruit people. I think I used to fix that long time ago but I forgot how. How?

Since you will be working on the Part 3 I have few suggestions:


 




1. Avoid event spoilers. Such as before Franco went to the hotel to visit his Don he already revealed the player tha there will be shooting. I think unexpected it would be way more effective. And well sme other moments with spoilers too..


 




2.Pay attention to bugs such as NPC car drive on these occasions when you do not drive sometimes they drive awfully, get stuck etc. I know you can just skip the drive but it would be cool if there could be some awesome dialogues going on during the ride etc.


 




Also. One little point. Mafia never does forgive those who messes with it. So there is virtually no chances Morello could let Franco go despite his business interest with Franco's boss. I believe when you were working on Part 1 you mentioned you have read The Godfather. Well, it clearly says that Mafia never forgives in such cases. One of the reasons why young Vito decided to deal with Fanucci is that Fanucci accepted money from some families in order to let their sons go who tried to asassinate him before. That fact made Vito conclude that Fanucci has no connections with Mafia whatsoever.


 




Overall fantastic mod. Simply amazing. Well, I didnt really like the ending but it was Mafia-like - unexpected and fast  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue.png" alt="(//tongue.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  Such as who knew Morello could one hit kill all their crew before Franco and Gio could arrive to the warehouse.

As I already told, Samo. In the part 1 prologue it clearly shows Franco's boss (Don Grannoli) killing Franco after massacring The Commission in the hotel. Ruby: one little thing... I was wondering, why your mod don't have sounds at all ... Stream_create and Stream_play are usable ONLY for .OGG or .MP3 files. If you want from Mafia to play WAV file, just use playsound command. If you know about this issue, why it isn't fixed at all?




And one little advice: change behaviour of NPC characters, because it's nonsense to kill Morello, continue mission and see Morello alive after next loading.

After my month off I have returned!


 




The Commission Mod - Part 3 is in production.


 




So far, one mission has already been completed. The second is in the works.


 




While I have no screenshots of Part 3 itself so far, I do have one of the menu for part 3 (although, you've probably already seen it before as it is the same one of what was ment to be the original menu of CM before I decided to split it into parts)

Did you extract all of Mafia's default files with data extractor and then paste my mods files afterwards?


 




If not then there's the reason you heard no sounds throughout the mod. You're the first to bring the issue up. P.S - I am just one modder at the end of the day. This was my idea for one last "great mod" when I thought that, after Mafia II's release that our community would be finished. Stopped stone dead.


 




Some say I should never of attempted such a project alone. And in some aspects I agree. I'm crazy for it, and good or bad its what I'll always be remembered for on here  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue.png" alt="(//tongue.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  I am not a great modder by any means. And I certainly am not a modeler as you can probably tell from my past interiors ;P but at the end of the day. Modding is my hobby, and I like to share it with others. I'm glad that most reviews of both of CM parts so far were mainly positive  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  But nothing can be perfect and I don't expect it to be. I just do the best with what I have/know and implement new things as I learn.


 




I share my work with you all cos we love this fantastic game. If you like my work, download it. I don't know if anyone plays Half-Life. But the Black Mesa mod got released this week and its truely incredible. Hopefully one day, if we all get an extreamly brilliant band of modders together, we could create something just as good as that for Mafia.

There's no need to extract files. If some "original" file isn't in folder, Mafia will load it from DTA file. It's because Stream commands are for OGG files, not for WAV files.




I don't know, from where this myth comes, but it's true, when you for example want taxi00.4DS and you don't have extracted it, it doesn't mind. ONLY problem is with City Musics, because city musics aren't stored in sounds/music in DTA file, but extractor is placing it there.




But I don't mean only sound issue... For example, I tried to hit morello and I thought, that I'll be dead in 2 seconds, but nothing happened.




Commision mod have great atmosphere, but modding in team (At least two poepole) is much more funnier, I am doing model jobs, details like briefings, intermezzos and Samo does action part, cutscenes and scripting works like that. And there are more opinions to recognize and fix bugs. It's not shame to share pride for work with somebody,

After some great hours, completed the Commission Mod Part 2, and I came here with my feedback  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">


 




So where I start... All missions contained great minutes of action, scenes and gameplay...




The Commission Mod Part 2 storyline was interesting and varied just like Part 1.




My favourite scenes were:

Second one: [spoiler:1uy85v8d]When Franco killed Giovanni at his apartment[/spoiler:1uy85v8d]

When I was playing the missions I found two bugged missions, which I can't completed and I skipped them.




First one: [spoiler:1uy85v8d]When Franco needs to deliver the boxes to the shop.After I unloaded the truck, in the cutscene after the dialogues nothing happens[/spoiler:1uy85v8d]




Second one: [spoiler:1uy85v8d]After reaching the zone, near Little Italy Gas Station, when the yellow car arrive to the gas station, nothing happens.The gas station attendant try to refuel the car, but he can't to do.The cutscene doesn't disappear.[/spoiler:1uy85v8d]


 




In some missions can be found some nice ideas, which I liked  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  just like the [spoiler:1uy85v8d]fireworks, shoot down the lock etc.[/spoiler:1uy85v8d]

Hello all.


 




Figured it was time to update you all on whats been happening.


 




First off, this mod is still in production. Just not at a fast pace. For you see, I gained myself a girlfriend a couple of days after I started working on Part 3, so naturally, most of my time (other than work) is dedicated to her, along with my friends/social life.


 




But alas, this mod is still at work. But more sort of "if and when" I get the time. Usually I dedicate an hour or so a night to it. I have no screens to show as of yet that don't spoil the story, but so far, I have completed 2 missions and am half way through the 3rd.


 




Also, I'd like to open something to discussion here  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  (even though I've already decided to do it).


 




I have decided to "ret con" the ending of my mod so it differs a little from what you all saw at the begining of Commission Mod Part 1. Some dialogue will be changed, and some characters may be missing/replaced from the scene.


 




If you are unaware of what a "ret con" is then feel free to educate yourself here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retroactive_continuity:39fktxn9). And if you still are unsure. Then some examples of "ret conning" are...


 




Mafia's ending scene - In Mafia, the two men who kill Tommy are anonymous. Where as in Mafia II, they are revealed to be Vito and Joe.


 




Half Life 2 - Valve "ret conned" a lot of minor background characters from Half life into main characters in Half Life 2 (Barney Calhoun, Dr. Kliener, Eli Vance, Dr. Magenson etc)


 




Pretty much any "slasher" movie (Halloween films are best example here. Where the baddie appears to be dead and is then revealed to be alive in the next movie).


 




So yeah, anyway, what do you guys think of my idea to "ret con" the ending of Commission Mod a little? Not a bad idea.It's a good end for the next start, and the storyline could be longer and interesting.It's will be a good idea, if you will want to continue or start a new mission mod.

Now, for a new question. (sorry for turning my mod topic into a Q&A, but I feel my fans feedback is important)


 




Incase people are unaware. After part 3 is released, I plan to release The Commission Mod: Collection Pack. With all 3 mods bundled into one MASSIVE file. Which will include an alternate ending to part 2.


 




The question is this.


 




Would any of you like me to put developer's commentary in the collection pack? so that as you play you have the choice to hear me talk about things such as...


 




How I got the mod idea, what I like about it, what I feel I could have done better, my plans for the future, and how I feel about the mod as a whole.


 




Kind of like what Valve have done with Half-Life, Left 4 Dead and Portal.


 




If you think its a good idea, let me know. And if not, then also let me know  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  I'd love to hear the feedback so I can act upon it.

P.S - Part 3 is coming along nicely. 4 missions have been made so far. Just hang in there, soon the mod will be complete. But I am busy, and am taking my time with the final part of this mod. Its been 3 years now, I am not about to rush things.

Hey all. Long time no see.


 




Just a heads up, the final part of The Commission Mod (Part III) is finished. But not being released yet as I have decided to go back and fix a few of the bugs in the previous parts now I have the time as the project is done <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">


 




All CM downloads are off the internet for the time being, when I feel they are up to standard Parts 1 and 2, along with 3 will be uploaded again.


 




Also, I am holding back part 3 because I am working on an alternate ending for parts 2 and 3 respectively.

Enjoy, and please. Should anyone find any bugs that hinder their gameplay (I.E - Player can't move, mission doesn't progress as it should etc) then please let me know and I will fix it as soon as I can. I have done extensive testing, but no one's perfect. Like I said earliear. Story and atmosphere is GENIAL! But technical things are very annoying.




Why don't you joined someone to team? You could do storyline and scripting and somebody else can do modeling,




Second thing, bugs: How can I completely kill all the people in bar, including Morello and my buddies, and game continue running, like everything is OK? :cheer:
