Mafia General Discussion / What was Sarah?

Sarah wouldn't have had any trouble quitting her job. How could have she worked anyway if she had to take care of her daughter.

I think Cole is talking about Sarah's daughter. Grammatical misunderstanding.

There are patches for Vietcong to get it work properly on windows 7. I still sometimes play it online.

And because games can be updated so easily via internet, game companies sometimes release games filled with bugs. DLCs have become a bigger priority than fixing the game itself.

Yeah. Pc games often create a community around them, on consoles it can be hard to interact with other players. Games like COD work better on pc, and maybe console versions are meant to have a shorter lifespan. From what I can tell, the ps3 version of COD4 lacked many updates. Whereas on PC you can always ban hackers from servers, but when the developers stop supporting the game on a console, there is nothing you can do about hacking and glitching. Those are some of the biggest downsides in console games.

The ps3 version has no players online, probably every sequel decreases the prequel's player count drastically.

General, Off Topic / Why Mafia community is dying

I could still suggest that the current community here can keep things going even with a few active members. I know sites that have even fewer members still working fine. The thing is that cult games like Mafia will always have fans, no matter what.

The key is to keep this site friendly for its users, it would be great if everyone would participate in making the community better. Topics like these shouldn't be condemned, they just show the truth about the current situations that can be made better.

The members of some smaller communities are friends with each other, and just the individuals themselves bring each other to the site, not just the theme of the forum (for example a game.) Some big communities lack actual friendy interaction between members, and some members might become isolated with nothing to do on the forum if the topic doesn't interest them.

Mafia is a unique game because of it's modifications. People can always create mods with new ideas and a new release might bring gamers together.

Mafia 2 was a big disappointment for some fans, and it somewhat caused the community to split. Even if the sequel was not so good, it doesn't really give the original a bad name.

For older fans of the serie reviving the community can be much asked. Mafia 2 might have not brought new content to the serie, but we can always make new things ourselves.

You can always hope for new things to come, such as Mafia 3. 2K might have learned something from Mafia 2, and we don't know what sort of a game Mafia 3 would be.

Just my two cents once again, thanks if you bothered to read.

General, Off Topic / Why Mafia community is dying

Nothing lasts forever in the end. At least the closure of the old mafiscene created a new community with some active members. Other Chezh fansites have been closed too, so it might be up for this site to keep the community together. Mafia 2 ended the interest of several fans in the serie, but Mafia 1 still remains a classic that people will remember.

Oh well, this is one of the reasons why I prefer PC-games. I have the ps3 version and I've seen that it lacks a lot from the other versions.

If I'm correct pc and xbox versions are both DVD whereas ps3 is blu-ray. This creates difficulties when porting games to blu-ray. I think this is the reason why PS3 ports of games can be somewhat inferior to other platforms.

Just my two cents.

They had to remove certain things to increase the frame rate in Mafia 2. The developers originally said that there would be ''differences between each version.'' Some console games lose a lot of content compared to the PC-original when they are ported; for example in Mafia 1 there were several differences between the console versions and the PC-version. For example on consoles players couldn't choose what kind of weather they wan't in freeride, couldn't choose the level of police, no gas stations, removed cutscenes and parts in missions, horrible loading times (even when crossing a bridge to another part of the city) terrible graphics etc. I guess it was the same thing with Mafia 2, though every version lacked somewhat quality (bugs etc.)

Mafia General Discussion / just for the fun of it

I've played the original for about 4 years occasionally, played it a lot when I first bought it. I have played the sequel probably less than ten hours, just finished the game and thats was it.

I'm TraitorousDog from the original ms.com, I joined there back in 2009, but im not sure if anyone remembers me. I've been watching this site for some time and decided to join, I'm still a big fan of the original game. Also, could someone tell me what happened to ms.com? I remember that the site was down for numerous times but now its gone. Thanks.
