Title: The Titanic Mod
Post by: Mr Robville on October 05, 2011, 06:14:14 PM
i think it's about time to start this topic here, too bad that the original topic on mafiascene.com is now probably lost in the darkness as MS seems to be gone.

that aside, let's talk some TitanicÃâà  (//bigwink.gif)

For those who are not yet fammiliar with this mod,

Titanic mod is a mod for Mafia 1 (maybe Mafia II someday) that brings people at one of the most detailed and accurate free 3d recreation of Titanic ever made.

There is a story line involving the salieri gang;

Salieri's causin from Empire bay has bought a new Renault Towncar vehicle,

they are only for sale in Lost heaven so it's up to Salieri with his gang to deliver him the vehicle.

guess what you will be using for transportation, indeed, the RMS Titanic.

onboard the gang will find out not everything goes as smooth as planned, Morello has an eye for that car aswell and delivers Salieri nothing but trouble.

Eventualy the ship will sink and you will be able to walk onboard while the corridors flood.

There will be a freeroam mode aswell which gives the player the oppertunity to just explore the ship or walk on it when it sinks.

to watch the intro cutscene, see this video:

<div><iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fOYc6qhSOAM?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

most recent video (as found on the mainpage)

<div><iframe width="459" height="344" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WWNVyT3_e3Y?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true"></iframe></div>

and now some recent screenshots:

the exterior is almost enterely placed ingame, all exept 3 rows of lifeboats, ship's wakes, smoke from the funnels and doors.

I saw the video in the barn awhile ago, I love to see your work Mr.Robville, always awesome to see your work.

The april 14th 2012 release date is actually I think a day before the Titanic actually sank. Wich would actually mark if on the 15th that the Titanic sank, that means it's 100th anniversary is coming up.

I think we should port this to RAGE/GTA IV once all the kinks have been sorted out. But it does look amazing in LS3D, too.Ãâà  (//bigwink.gif)

Thanks a lot for the kind comments!

i hoped to get all of the exterior ingame earlier, but i now have a week of vacation, so i can do a lot of work on the mod now. also Hudizzle will be joining me this week to start modelling the 1st class smoking room.

Knowing Hud's qualities, prepare for some epic awesomeness of modelling coming ahead!

ok, here's a small ingame update,

all lifeboats have been added and therefore the exterior is now fully placed ingame.

next step i will be working on today is the collission model, to avoid the player getting stuck behind every single object.

She looks swell ingame, especially with the full exterior and lifeboats onboard. As for the interior and cabin rooms, were the lower-class rooms essentially the same banana as with each other?

i'm not sure what you mean with "banana" can you please explain? sorryÃâà  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue.png" alt="(//tongue.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

here's a first screenshot of the collission model:

none of this will be seen ingame, but it sure plays a big role.

this will give the player a smooth area to walk on.

May I present the 3D version of the 3D Titanic! (3D 3D what? 6D....?):

It ain't imax, but if you own one of those paper stereoscopic glasses with red and blue glass in it you'll see an incredible ammount of detail coming right at you!

Incredible work Mr.Robville, concerning the video above, it is pretty neat, but the majority of what makes the video look so great is because Crysis has shaders and full on dyanmic shadows, while Mafia I has practically nothing compared to that on a level of graphics, I believe Mr.Robville has done an incredible job, and please, do keep up the work Mr.Robville, we all love to see your updates.
Title: The Titanic Mod
Post by: Mr Robville on November 24, 2011, 09:56:50 PM
Yeah I watched that video yesterday, I was amazed.

Indeed like MB discribes, Crysis is way more advanced. but judged from the FPS, I wonder if it's related to all of the detail or just crappy recordings.

After I finish this mod for Mafia I'm planning to convert it to Amnesia and Skyrim aswell, maybe Crysis also someday.

I know, not the most common choice of games.

but what would be more fun than running through the 3rd class corridors with this behind your back:Ãâà  (//bigwink.gif)

That is, if we're lucky, or some irate 2K programmer was generous enough to leak it for us. Still I'm a bit optimistic about it, it's just that progress with Mafia II is at snail's pace, with only a few actively researching about its inner workings.

(//applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=width=700%2520height=616&key=0212da11206b459201cbf659ce64ec9923344724f1931ee83975c32a803350a2)http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m104/mrr_03/LogoMTM.jpg (http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m104/mrr_03/LogoMTM.jpg)[/img]

It shows 2 main characters, the captain, obviously the Titanic herself with the white star line flag on the background.

In case you wonder, Titanic is rendered in C4D and edited in photoshop.

and here's some more progres on the model:

I finished A deck grand staircase. I had to rebuild it all over again because the model that Hudizzle made didn't fit inside my exterior model.

Ofcourse it's only the rooms that I need to rebuild. I'll use the smaller details from Hud's model.

Mr R you are a modding genius. The patience, determination , time and effort you have put into this mod is nothing short of an artistic masterpiece

Well done....

I don't know if you have addressed this, but you are going to sell this, and not give it away....right?

Thanks a lot for the very kind words, it means a lot to me!

From day one this project started I promised that this project is completely free of charge. never will there be anything asked for it. That includes no gold versions, no special editions, full... etc.

Most likely only optional donations later on.

Absolutely incredible work mate, I am really excited, especially cause we are nearing the completion of this 4 year long project, to finally climb aboard your art on water.

If I may though, Mr.Robville, I recommend having 2 versions, a Gold and a regular, you've done too much work, you gotta get some cash back on it, it's only fair to you.

If you all remember the Reading and Writing room from an earlier video of mine, you would have noticed that it looked way too flat shaded. well I hope this turns out better:

Sure sure, but Titanic is something different ... it's like finding old car in barn what will fire up and roll as good as in old days. It reminds on the old MS, on the old fellas and their enthusiasm for, well, PC gaming in general.

Makes me actually wonder that Mr.Rob didn't gave up on it, as well as 'Mafia Scene' actually runs, I was browsing/cleaning old bookmarks and found the original link to mafiascene.com and Google helped a little to find this.

It can be compared to going back to city where you used to live, you won't go checkup the new shiny mall (ofcourse later you will, but first thing first ...), you will go back to corner groceries on Pineapple Street and look for old Ahmed if he still sells beer with cigs to teenagers. A bit of nostalgy never hurts.

Ok in the upcoming weeks I will post some new footage and content due to the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

The first thing I made is a remake of the exterior animation video:

<div></div>

Compared to the old version, this one is rendered at 1680X1050 pixels instead of 320X240 pixels.

Also the light effects have been updated and effects like water have been added.

It took both my computers more than 20 hours to render this animation.

I hope you all like it!

Quoted from my website's F.A.Q. :

QuoteWhen will the mod release?

I made several release dates in the past, but due to setbacks or busy periods in my personal life I could not live up to them. I therefore decided to remove the release date and percent bar untill I get a solid planning and idea of when things can be completed and how long it will take.

That doesn't mean that progres will take another year or something. I'll still do my best together with my team to finish this project as soon as possible, but still with the aimed quality.

Some more details have been added. These textures take a lot of time to create because of a slight diffrence in each panel, but the result pays off. (see the pilar and the support of the divider wall, same model, diffrent texture)

The Texture for the entrance door is a nice one, I didn't had to do much about it. In fact, it is an actual photo from the same entrance on onlympic's Lounge. This piece of woodwork is still preserved at the White swan hotel in Alnwick, England.

For those interested in a little "did you know?" The left upper part of the entrance paneling is the same piece of wood where rose lies on in the 1997 film.

I need to get into contact with MR F to ask him how he made this and if/how I can use it into the Titanic mod.

Though it's adviced to turn Anti Alias down to 2X or none, because if higher, the game's performance really decreases a lot.

Awesome mod!

About your specs, As far as I know, AMD processors are not well known for games, they are better in the 3D rendering industry. But your ammount of GHZ seems to be ok. Mafia doesn't support multiple cores anyway.

Ofcourse I'm not 100% certain as I never tried any computer like that.

Your GPU card seems too low indeed, with only 265mb. I believe you'll need at least 512mb, but with todays graphics cards, you have a 1GB GPU for little money. Also your RAM could be a problem I think, considering that windows eats like 1GB from it, and other processes are running on the background. 4GB as the minimum is a recomendation. Also Memory doesn't cost much these days.

But besides hardware I would recommend running the game using gamebooster, it really helps increasing the frames.

@CP

I will do my best to get the atmosphere onboard the ship right. And it seems very possible for me.

In earlier stages of the interior being tested, I played a song "An der scḫ̦nen blauen Donau" from Strauss on the background, and it really set the atmosphere right. It really had this classy feeling throughout the first class corridors and rooms. And thinking of the dirty boiler rooms below deck only increases this feeling.

Now we'll have to figure out how to make it animated like if the ship is sailing.

Post by: Samo on June 29, 2012, 07:41:09 PM
Finish the mod already Robville. You shouldnt take it for so long with details and every room.If you do  player will expect something really genial, unusual and they will be searching for every mistake, bugg everything just like with Mafia 2.It would be treated better if it wasnt called Mafia and wasnt so long in Development.Anyway the most important thing as for a mod i think is the scripting and mission design. You should show some of it.The room detail for you as a modeller and advertisement is great. But all i am saying that you shouldnt detail stuff which wont be used much in the story.
Title: The Titanic Mod
Post by: Mr Robville on July 06, 2012, 07:56:01 AM
This would kind of defeat it's purpose.

The main reason I make this mod is to give people the ability to explore a detailed 3D representation of the RMS Titanic. All for no charge I must add.

With that comes a storyline merged with the Mafia game.

If I would rush these models and not make them accurate, in my opinion I may not claim this to be "One of the most detailed and accurate 3D replicas"

I would also had to put Hudizzle from the team as he has a great love for accuracy and detail. It would be the dumbest decision in this whole planet to do that as he is the best help I could ever wish for with the Titanic models. He ain't gonna make unaccurate Titanic models, and so ain't I, it is too unmotivational.

Keep in mind that the actual definite modelling and scripting started in 2010. Before that it was a long learning progres. see this video for example:

<div></div>

So all progres that has been made since 2010 will be used in game, Virtually you may consider the mod's progres time to 2 years. And I repeat, only virtually.

Besides that I have some news to report.

It is that time of the year again where everyone deserves a little break.

Today I will be going on vacation for 3 weeks. So no updates will be posted in the meantime.

To see it's latest progres, see this moddb page: www.moddb.com/mods/mafia-titanic-mod (http://www.moddb.com/mods/mafia-titanic-mod)

Work on the Aft GSC has been started aswell as on the Verandah & Palm Court Cafe.

In the meantime, I wish everyone a great summer!

Hello, I'm back again!

I wasn't sitting still during my vacation and couldn't resist doing some work for the Titanic mod.

Ofcourse I didn't bring along my computer, but I did use a notepad and a pen to write and finish the entire main storyline:

(//i102.photobucket.com/albums/m104/mrr_03/TMscriptpages.jpg&key=c26d3a49a1f8363660aef27ae8c5b095eb2abaf0dcd7f44ea8d37c2cefc4685b)

47 sides of paper are written containing precisely 500 lines of Dialog.

With this done, The mod's progres get's a huge step foreward.

Since I'm back, Me and Hudizzle already got some nice new footage to show.

Me a finished clock for the aft GSC.

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/AGSCclock.jpg&key=6250085a829d2e6266c42f05c18192996b37350ccd43acdfd3c76bf1d7e55d4d)

and Hudizzle some impressive work on the verandah and palm court cafe's walls and windows:

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/vpc002.jpg&key=b417637b66c8b2ba80a8cc9827643a72f5a9b1b88796b2a254d40b10064adb3f)

And I also made an unfinished concept drawing, It shows the confrontation that will take place ingame between Tommy & Paulie against the main villain Wilkinson.

The Renault can be seen finished inside the broken crate.

Updates updates updates!   (//bigwink.gif)

Sorry for the silent days, I had to do some short deadline work for something else.

Here are a few another renders from the Aft Grand Staircase corridor leading to the Lounge:

(//i102.photobucket.com/albums/m104/mrr_03/AGS112.jpg&key=dbddcebb589f0f25187445536a74d31a1b010ab54504646d1863fd99c5c37d1c)

Notice the seamless connection to the exterior model and the expansion joint that crosses the corridor.

and also the script file has been fully digitalized, I already received many audio files from several voice actors!

Also some other drawing I came across that I made 2 years ago, it shows me and Kyle standing at the forward Grand Staircase:

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/TMKRD.jpg&key=30929fa5f02193662cc30f9896e2099494a0e3b70dc0182ee1ac51cfe5f17ddb)

Kyle also has done some more work in the meantime. See how the Verandah and Palm court are now being furnished. What a detail!

It can be Ok, if all of that details are only HD textures. But if it's all polygon-modelled, then my GPU will cry blooddy tears  (//bigwink.gif)
Title: The Titanic Mod

I will apply a few tricks ingame to save most CPU and GPU's from exploding   <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink.png" alt="(//wink.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

adjusting the level of detail ingame will have high effect as I will create some far distance models and let smaller items dissapear.

Also a few loading screens should avoid a laggy game.

And for a little extra, Installing gamebooster can easily increase a few FPS.

Nothing to worry about, as long as my computer doesn't blow at least   <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue.png" alt="(//tongue.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/tongue@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

Thank you for the kind comments everyone!

The next thing I'll be working on is the B deck part of the aft Grand Staircase with it's adjoining 1st class corridor leading to the forward GSC.

Update!

Today I finished another addition to the aft GSC: The Aft Reception Room.

This room took some time to model as practically everything differed from the "honor and glory" style.

The walls are white and furniture is diffrent.

For the paneling texture in the corridor leading to the A La Carte Restaurant (next on the list) I used actual photographs of remaining parts of the Original RMS Olympic. The corridor floor has been changed to carpet to match the attached restaurant in the meantime but wasn't rendered yet.

Do you remember this image I posted in my first post on this topic?

Alright, now in English to be a little less vague. Djbozkosz who we all know from his impressive modding tools and his Boz mod has joined Titanic mod's team!

He will be mainly focusing on (as you may have noticed) the overal graphics and visuals of the mod.

As seen in the images above, the ocean now is much more realistic, the sunrays are better and the skybox is way more improved.

Yet to add to this scene is the 3d wave mesh for the ocean and the ship's wake. Plus some smoke from the funnels to name a few.

Djbozkosz will also be working on sectors (to give interior it's own lighting, and to optimize the scene) and lightmaps and probably anything else that requires just that bit of programming experience he posesses.

A good thing is that not all work will now be put on Asa's shoulders as he will be working on the mission programming like the cutscene's and such.

I want to apolgize for my earlier comment saying you should sell this.   You don't ask Michealangelo how much would he take to do the sistine chapel in my garage

The graphics are so rich and buttery   just like I imagine the real thing would be.

Question...did you have some reference on the wood tone?  Just asking because with the BW photo's it would be hard to tell

Last few days I have been correcting issues to the exterior model. Like small glitches and such.

So now I have to export the whole exterior again   (//wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/ohmy.png)

But the result will be far worth it! the models will be more optimized now, and will make it possible for Djboskosz to bake lightmaps onto it.

Also soon you all will be receiving some first glimpses of all A deck interior rooms placed ingame.

It has been a few days since my last update here, I wish everyone a happy new year!

I have some interesting news item from the graphics department to start a good year  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

First, take a look at this:

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/Enb_2.jpg&key=955417c079a0f68e797c03d05960e52def93ae282a7563e7a9ce49cd450eb677)

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/Enb_1.jpg&key=bac9ded9c7cf0f626e3d3e97fbb03e6891acc2bba8c6bcc50e67fa906163820e)

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/Enb_3.jpg&key=f54e9fca65803fe24b1b60b103897975b4f90e7b136d840d358cece098d400ae)

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/Enb_4.jpg&key=51a00cea92c6ab1b9e696bb758013ecbb7c47053b56098a8a546006368e3da56)

Some people might have heard of the ENB series before. If not, what this does is that it enhances Mafia's LS3D engine graphic wise and adding features such as bloom effects, motion blur, ambient occlusion etc.

These comparison shots are taken with default ENB applied to it. It might need some tweaking later on by someone with more experience.

Altough you might think this looks too blurry, for some reason this really is an atmosphere enhancer!

As you can see, ENB has a slight impact on the FPS rate. But don't you worry, with a simple Shift+F12 press on your keyboard you can enable or disable it. So if you don't like it and hate bloom or motion blur effects, don't touch it. By default ENB is disabled.

Some of you might worry about the FPS rate with no ENB at all on the outside ship which is 24 FPS at some points. Luckely there's nothing to fear. These screenshots ware taken with 4X anti aliasing which is a bomb on FPS (with 2X AA, the average lies within 30-40 FPS)

But also when the mod is completed, a low resolution texture pack will be available as the option to remove the sun's enhanced sun rays which also take some FPS when looked at.

Also the ocean's model will be replaced later on which will have less polygons.

Good thing about the sector usage is as you can see, the smoking room has a FPS of 47 while this is located in the same scene as the exterior. So each interior sector has it's own independent FPS rate.

Also for FPS increasing, a free copy of gamebooster will be delivered with downloading MTM.

But also Djbozkosz has some new progress made:

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/Game_2012-12-27_21-36-22-23.jpg&key=5d75511e80fb14c16a4ef7c80137cd5c922eeb252c7e8fb13fb255ba7ae9ec21)

It's still WIP, certain adjustments are still needed and yes, there is smoke coming from Funnel 4, which is not supposed to. But look at the result!

@CP,

I'm sorry to hear that...

Something that might be interesting to search for is DCA. It has proven effective against this disease.

The reason you never hear of it is because it's cheap and free of patent. Hospitals lose money on using it therefore it's not being used. However, it is available on the market I believe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichloroacetic_acid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dichloroacetic_acid)

QuotePharmaceutical companies are not exactly ignoring DCA, and they definitely aren't suppressing DCA research ââ¬â it's just that they're not helping it. Why? Drug development is ultimately a business, and investing in the drug simply isn't a good business move. "Big Pharma has no interest whatsoever in investing [in DCA research] because there will be no profit," Michelakis told Life's Little Mysteries

http://www.lifeslittlemysteries.com/1444-big-pharma-ignoring-potential-cancer-cure-dca.html (http://www.lifeslittlemysteries.com/1444-big-pharma-ignoring-potential-cancer-cure-dca.html)

I think it's sickening that this cure is not promoted in the medical world simply because there's no business...

Resembling a quote of Tommy Angelo: People are rather rich and dead instead of poor and alive.

I'm currently working on the ship's boiler room.

The boilers:

It has been some time, but I have some new work to show:

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/SHI2.jpg&key=512b2b5e780a254600be98263e090130a61e90b792bd50dd4d30049cbdceac9e)

These are just renders at the moment.

I haven't had much time to do a lot of work the past few weeks unfortunately due to exams. Hopefully I'll be able to create a lot of new content the coming weeks. Once all objects are made, the other remaining boiler rooms will go a lot faster to produce since only the piping, catwalks and funnel manifold need to be altered.

Also ModDB's Mod of the year contest is being held. Don't forget to vote!

The other boiler rooms will go faster to make since many components only need to be copied.

There were 1514 sacks of potatoes stored within cargo hold 1. Of course there are not that many on this screenshot. I will keep this hold more empty than it should have been for exploration's sake. In reallife it would have probably been filled to the top.

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/potatoes.jpg&key=ce271b3efcc9177fda022d355126dce55cbf59ca985140e10b9f2bbb79950bef)

Just for fun, a render of how the Renault Coupe DeVille appeared in James Cameron's movie. This car won't stay here in the actual mod due to several inaccuracies from the movie;

As you can notice, the area is a lot smaller and does not include a staircase. Motor cargo was actually stored two decks above. And the cargo hatch could not even make the car fit. And most importantly; for transatlantic crosses, each vehicle would have been crated. So unless Jack had a crowbar with him there would have been no way of getting in that thing.

In the actual mod, this car will be located within it's proper hold and crated. Don't worry, you will gonna see it.

(//media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/12/11557/renault.1.jpg&key=ab72396a81ca698db4428042ed07904bffad3e3044fe06eae6db4236cc437d5f)
