I'm sure other players have had this problem. I've downloaded a couple of mods. When I start the game, I get a message that says the DLC has been installed but "It appears that it was not purchased." I assume other players are able to use these mods. What do I need to do to get these mods to work? The mods are free and cannot be purchased. I'd very much appreciate any help.

Thanks very much.

Yes, these mods are free. But the game says about the DLC's haven't been purchased. DLC's for Mafia 2 are paid.

But you still can download them from our Downloads  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

Thanks very much for your response. I believe that I did download these mods from your site. They are "Spoils of War" and "Freeride." Could you please tell me how I can get these mods to work?

One more thing - do you play through Steam ?

If yes, try to play without it and tell me the effects. I guess it could be a reason.

Yes, I do play through Steam. Is there a way to avoid this?

I don't know how it works, because I don't use Steam.

But what will be if you launch Mafia without Steam ?

Thanks for the replies. The only thing I know to try is to go to the Steam site and click on "Play offline." But when I try to open it then it still shows the Steam launch.

I did not know that it is possible to play without using Steam. If there's a way to uninstall the game and then re-install it without Steam, I'd really like to do that. Does anyone know if that is possible?

It may be possible, try it  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin.png" alt="" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">  Reinstalling a game & launching without Steam should do the trick.

Thanks, I'll try that. But it seems to me that Steam is automatically installed when you install the game, whether you want it or not. Do you know if the game can be installed without Steam? Anyway, I'll try it when I get a moment and report what happens. It seems to me that there has to be a way to make this work.

Steam can be installed only manually here

You click on that green button 'Download file'  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

Thanks again, I appreciate your help. Let me see if I understand everything so far:

(1) Using Steam to play the game makes it impossible to use mods because Steam won't allow mods.

(2) If I play the game without Steam I should be able to use the mods.

(3) It is possible to install the game without Steam.

So, another question. I have Mafia 2 on a CD. Is it possible to install the game from a CD and not install Steam?

Thanks again.
