Title: Car modding and painting
Post by: teisco on November 21, 2011, 03:30:15 PM
I am painting the interiors of some cars to make them look better. There are two identical textures for the interior, Waybar and Waybar_z, I found I need to only paint the standard and not the Z texture but what is the Z texture for?

the Z at the end mean the car is available in winter also

Thanks, any other advice for car painting? So far I have done the Futura (fantastic car, glad they added this) by finding detailed photos of the dash and other parts online and using them in the texture and then setting the color. I am working on the hot rods now.

Afaik the z in waybar_z and a bunch of other filenames refer to "zima", which is Czech for snow.

The ultimate modification to the Futura would be turning it into the Batmobile, with the red pin striping and black interior.  <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

I wish someone would re do theÃâà Pontiac Club de mer

The 1956 Pontiac Club De Mer was the unique masterpiece of GM's Motorama car show for 1956. The body was made out of anodized brushed aluminum and was a scant 38 inches high. The engine compartment housed a 300 horsepower Stato-Streak V8 engine with dual 4 barrel carburetors. The companion car for the full scale Club De Mer was a quarter scale model, which traveled with the car to all of the auto shows throughout the United States. While the full scale model was destroyed in 1958, the Quarter Scale Model was retained by General Motors and was later motorized by Harley Earl, chief designer of General Motors and given to his grandson, whose first name was tiger, as a peddle car. Thereafter the car went through several hands and was recently purchased and restored by the Bortz Auto Collection.

The Following are facts and specifications for this model:

- Man responsible for designing the Club De Mer: Paul Gillian.

- 300 Horsepower V8

- Rear mounted transaxle

- 104 inch wheelbase

- Large dorsal fin undoubtedly the most dramatic cue for this car.

- Headlights and parking lights are placed in a dual arrangement one over the other in a rotational unit that when not in use revolve and disappear, leaving a completely smooth front surface.

- Debut: Miami, 1956 (Note, the Quarter Scale Model of the Club De Mer was unveiled earlier in North Miami Beach at an exclusive club).

As for the Batmobile I am not a fan. George Barris ruined the Futura to hack out the Batmobile for the television show.

I don't fancy the Batmobile either that much, just it would be a cool mod to that car, I fancy how the MPH gauge was in the steering wheel of the RL futura, very creative idea.

Well in Mr Barris defense the Futura was rusting away on a movie back lot when he bought it for a dollar.

Here is the Waybar with new instrument panel and horn button, also seats and side panels are changed a bit.

Here is the 53 Corvette with correct dash. The steering wheel and horn button is also correct. As you can see there is a modeling or mapping error in the middle by the radio and corvette emblem, not much I can do about that.

I would but the problem with that is documentation. I am not sure if I can find good enough photos of the interior to get what I need. I cant do anything about the exterior but might see if I can redo the interior.

Nice shoops, I love it! They're so swell, and perhaps even better than that fugly stock textures that 2K Czech used. BTW, what graphics tool do you use for editing and piecing things up?

Real nice job on the dash of the 53', the UV's are apparently badly done on the interior, you would think the person that made the car would unwrap the dash properly.

What I do is a combination of real photos and some painting to merge them into the texture. I look for direct head on pictures of the dash and usually have to piece it together from seveal photos. So the gauges and emblems and knobs and such are real but the most of the dash and interior is still textured. The only way to get this much detail is to enlarge the mip texture to 2048 (from 512) and the non mip to half that. Might be a hit on some systems but I have not had any as yet. But if all cars had the large textures I am sure that cars like the corvette that are in traffic would cause a slowdown. Specialty cars that are not in general traffic are ok as there is only one on the road at a time.

By the way, is there a mod to put all cars in traffic?

You have to make a car change name, for one in the trafic, take your car name and replace it name like houston wasp and your car will replace the wasp on the street
