Perhaps this is one the many reasons why I left the 2K forums, and why I'm so pissed off at the company for making M2 a half-assed game:

I mean, look at the Transformers PS2 game - the devs at Melbourne House managed to stuff in a detailed environment, complete with
grass, and yet the PS3 version of Mafia II didn't have any volumetric foliage due to "performance reasons".
