Howewer Mafia 2 is ... well not bad game, but that's not what we expected. Mafia 2 is 2K product.
But Mafia Lost Heaven is still alive, maybe it's not popular like 5 years ago, but it's still attractive for modders. Today, it's not hard to do anything in that. It's maybe true about that people leaving, but on the other hand, new people still can come. For example me, I'm very glad, that I joined this comunnity. We had one in common, our love to Illusion Sofworks pearl - Mafia. And that's important for me (//wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20"> To keep it alive.
BTW: Howewer PC games graphics and technical site is going forward in furious tempo, they will never have something like it's own soul... On Mafia is obvious, that it arised with love and passion from it's creators.
Agree with you that Mafia is not like it used to be but if we continue modding it its not quite dead :s ide:
Mafiascene is and will be alive as long as there are at least some people who show interest in Mafia and who want to mod it. Maybe the best days of Mafia are over, but there are always members who come up with new and original ideas. If Mafiascene was dead, we wouldn't see people posting in the forums, making mods, posting updates on upcoming mods etc. I don't know why some of us want to make the impression that Mafiascene is going to end. It isn't! <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
Little bit off-topic: Why mafiascene.com died? I registered about one year ago and two days later, problems started, I saw only blank page. One month later, forum worked normal for about a week and then just disapeared.
What was reason of that site problems?
@CrAzY3AGL3 Yes, I also used to be a member in Mafiascene.com, and I know that very few returned. However, I don't think about this fact as a catastrophe. Even though Mafiascene.com is dead, Mafiascene.net isn't. There are active people here. I don't wanna argue or something, and I know that .com and .net differ from each other, but I think that Mafiascene.net is going to be just fine <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink.png" alt="(//wink.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20"> Even if I'm not right, hey, sometimes you gotta be optimistic <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink.png" alt="(//wink.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

I dont know but this week you are talking about i think would be when i emailed riddian and he said it was server problems and fixed it and apologised...
Then a week later it went off... ive emailed a few times... no repsonse
so what do you suggest? <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
I think hes suggesting this website isnt very good.. am I correct?

which "bigger" community do you mean?
Oh right i see Crazy <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

The main reason why the modding is dying for Mafia II, one reason...
"Filter", what I mean, is that Zmodeler has yet to release there import/export of models into and out of Mafia II, if we had the option available from Zmodeler, the modding community will be 100x stronger, people wish to not join, because well, there is only free ride mods, and texture mods, and script mods, they're nothing even close to what people want, people want conversions, map modifications, new cars, and we've yet to even taste that yet, GTAIV's modding community was horrid until the Filter came out in June 09', and since then it's been HUGELY strong, reason for lack luster, is Zmodeler import, I don't mean to blame Zmodeler, but they are the key to Mafia II's mod success.
Agreed entirely.
I'm here for Mafia: Lost Heaven modifications. Mafia 2 is not bad game like I said, but it's a 2K game. And after relasing Mafia 2, some "fathers of Mafia" from Illusion Softwroks are not employed at 2K. Mafia III will be completely different games from completely different people.
But: Mafia have one advantage, even after ten years, it looks fuck*ng good! It's optimalized for 2002's hardware, but if you install Unlimited draw distance and maybe water shader mod, you will have completely new experience from gaming!
And what about Mafia 2 modding? Don't forget, that gold age of modifiing Mafia started 2-3 years after releasing it. But Illusion was tolerating modders comunity, 1.2 patch deleted only multiplayer support (which is pitty), Mafia 2 patches banning mod support <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad.png" alt="(//frown.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
Totally agree,The community isnt like what it used to be....
(only people i know from mafiascene.com are cole phelps and mr.robville, maybe more, havent seen em yet)
I remember back in like 2007 or so,i always used to download mods from here,oh the good old times <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
QuoteMafiascnene.com well its dead <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink.png" alt="(//wink.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20"> here its not Mafiascene its just a website with same name but it does the job for what its supposed to be.
Just what is the job this site is suppose to do? I have refrained from posting here but have been watching this thread. All I see is a critique of this site. This site isnt Mafiascene.com and never claimed to be. Mike and I wanted to create a place for people to feel welcome and mod the games without the site going down every day. We have built it to what it is today. You have a lot of false premises about this site. It ok for you to have your opinion about this site but frankly we're all a little tired of you bashing our internet home. This topic is "Why Mafia Scene Community is Dying" not "Criticize Mafiascene.net".
CrAzY3AGL3 didn't say anything wrong. He's just sorry for see that people he liked so much are not interested in Mafia game or Mafiascene anymore. But he also respects that it's not fault of this site or "new" comunnity.
Think positively guys! I think we are great comunitty even if qauntity of us is less. Like I said, it's not our faul, gold days of Mafia are definitely gone. We are people who will love it forever, that's what we have in common and because of that, we shouldn't argue!
The problem with this once great community diminishing has nothing to do with a single website going down. Members are not flocking here because they don't care about this franchise anymore and that is all 2K Games fault. They destroyed this community when they butchered Mafia II.
Let's face the facts, Mafia II was nothing like the original Mafia. Mafia II was a major disappointment that took 8 years to create and on top of that it is not modder friendly. There is very little a community can rally behind when we get shafted like this.
Personally I believe that is the consoles to blame.
Mafia was made for the pc only and then ported to the consoles, while Mafia 2 was made for all platforms from the start, thus the game was going to be restricted from the start. If Mafia 2 was going to be made for the pc first, I think we would of seen a different game altogether because it would of not been held back because of the system requirements of the consoles.
Deus Ex went the same way with Invisible war
Gaming itself has also changed, it's all about the masses now and niche games like the original Mafia are not seen as money makers; everything has to be made with "dumbed down" player in mind now. So many great franchises have now lost their "Great" part just to be a cash cow for the publishers; sad but true.
Yup you are absolutely right. But players are getting tired of it more and more. You can see it on youtube comments <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin.png" alt="(//bigsmile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/biggrin@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
And welcome by the way.
That's true. In past, you could buy datadiscs to get completely new storyline. Now you have to buy DLC's to unlock things that are already ingame.
But nonsense is that 2K Games forum has a lot of active users and Mafia Scene suffers from that they cut the content from Mafia 2. That's my opinion about it.
But we are mostly hard fans of Mafia 1 and we expected Mafia II to be as great game as Mafia is.
Maybe after the release of Mafia III we will have a bigger comunity.
MIII hasn't been announced yet but it was reported that 2K-Czech participated on developing GTA V in return that Rockstar would help them working on MIII or something like that.
Also if someone ever cracks MII's data, I'm sure the modding community will grow a lot faster.
The engine MII uses is perfect for many projects. Hell, I would emedietly port the Titanic mod to it if possible.
They already made a exporter for MII's files to 3ds max, so with a bit of hope they will make a reversed one some day.
All of that things about cooperating Rockstar and 2K are not true.
You can read abou it here (http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?118473-Rumour-2k-Czech-working-on-Gta-V&p=1513649#post1513649:26b2ktjt)
Thanks for correcting that!
You're welcome.
And about that Mafia III, I don't really know... If it will be released, it will be game from completely new people and it won't have anything in common with Mafia 1.
vapno92
But they could refer to Mafia 2 and show us what happened with Joe <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
Am I only one person who believe that Joe was really shooted in that car?
If Mafia III will be released, we will have only two missions and three cars ingame and we will have to buy DLCs for unlocking missions (//confuse.gif)??:
by the scenario out of the observatory they are close to the cliff of the dam, i beleive that they wont even find his body, or in a hole close to Frankie Potts, chapter 7

I guess you are <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
Of course he was shot.Mr Chu wanted revenge for hes people. But i bet 2K wont make him dead cause some people would be unhappy. And if he wouldnt get shot a lot of people would buy mafia 3 without thinking cuz its one of the best characters in games.
Mafia 3 is actually in development, has been since the release of Mafia II, Take-Two's CEO said that, he said that we're not going to do a quick sequel and release a year later, and that he wants to stress what quality he brings to gaming.
Do you have a link for that article?
QuoteSome people from mafiascene.com don't even want to join here because well community has started dying long ago and for some people this will never be Mafiascene. This website only has about 15 active members others signup and never return again...[/b]
on this site is very little useful information
there is a group of people who communicate on Mafia1
But the game Mafia2 communication is almost entirely absent
15 active members care more about what their karma, and one of them will become a member of the month
still here may discuss the weather, your favorite TV show, etc.
but we are all from different countries and using a translator to tell jokes just pointless
it is all very well
but first of all we share an interest in the game
I've been on this site for several months and did not find understanding
and even now I wonder
My karma was 13 and was 12 (-1)
I basically do not care how much it
can delete it all
I go to this site not in order to measure karma
or as much as possible to write meaningless posts
I am interested in someone who has done
why he did it in secret and not disclose this
that the kindergarten
some users have encountered with a similar attitude
Then you wonder why mafiascene dies
Nothing lasts forever in the end. At least the closure of the old mafiscene created a new community with some active members. Other Chezh fansites have been closed too, so it might be up for this site to keep the community together. Mafia 2 ended the interest of several fans in the serie, but Mafia 1 still remains a classic that people will remember.

Agreed <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile.png" alt="(//smile.gif)" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">
I could still suggest that the current community here can keep things going even with a few active members. I know sites that have even fewer members still working fine. The thing is that cult games like Mafia will always have fans, no matter what.
The key is to keep this site friendly for its users, it would be great if everyone would participate in making the community better. Topics like these shouldn't be condemned, they just show the truth about the current situations that can be made better.
The members of some smaller communities are friends with each other, and just the individuals themselves bring each other to the site, not just the theme of the forum (for example a game.) Some big communities lack actual friendy interaction between members, and some members might become isolated with nothing to do on the forum if the topic doesn't interest them.
Mafia is a unique game because of it's modifications. People can always create mods with new ideas and a new release might bring gamers together.
Mafia 2 was a big disappointment for some fans, and it somewhat caused the community to split. Even if the sequel was not so good, it doesn't really give the original a bad name.
For older fans of the serie reviving the community can be much asked. Mafia 2 might have not brought new content to the serie, but we can always make new things ourselves.
You can always hope for new things to come, such as Mafia 3. 2K might have learned something from Mafia 2, and we don't know what sort of a game Mafia 3 would be.
Just my two cents once again, thanks if you bothered to read.
