I know... why the hell am I asking this question here.

Well, it's simple, nobody ever found any solution and Rockstar games is nowhere to be found, and neither is their active support nor forums.

So what I'm hoping is that Mafiascene can function as my final resort by getting this game to work.

Any L.A. Noire players, please help!

The problem is when I want to start the game, the tiny menu pops up and I press the launch button.

After that, the LA.N logo shows up appearing to be loading, and after that I hear the logo video for only a brief second and then the game closes followed with a windows error "L.A. Noire stopped working and shut down"

From what I have been searching, some more people had this problem. But many didn't found any solution, other topics died, and somepeople didn't bother sharing their solution.

I got all drivers updated and my PC specs are beyond required.

I also tried running it as administrator

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you are using windows 7 or vista, try running in compatibility mode for windows XP.

For some reason, some games don't work well with 7.

I had this with another game and it fixed it.

Hope this helps

Running it in compatibility mode makes the game not even respond at all.

The game should be working with W7, at least that's what the box says.

With these kind of issues it makes me understand why people prefer downloads against original retail versions.

Retail customers are treated like animals!

I always buy games just for the convinience to save all the trouble with installing. But I think I must add Rockstar to my blacklist together with EA games. GTA IV took me a week to find out how to make it work before I was finally able to play it.

Damn  ??:

Yeah EA Ripped me off big time, and they give you rubbish excuses, after months and months of problems with them I got a free game lol

Try this:

1. Right click the shortcut

2. Click the'Compatibility' tab

3. Tick 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution

(It could be that it's detecting your monitor as bigger than it is, which won't work at all)

Then if it works, set it to the correct resolution

No luck   <img src="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad.png" alt="" data-emoticon="" srcset="/wp-content/uploads/invision_emoticons/sad@2x.png 2x" width="20" height="20">

The game sets it's resolution back when it's initalized.

Weird thing is, when I firstly installed this game, it ran, and I started to download the mandatory patch that prompted on the main menu.

But the patch failed, game crashed, and an error window popped up saying something about a shortage of memory (cheers, is 8GB not enough? shame on you Rockstar)

After that the game didn't work anymore, I reinstalled it, and it worked again, and I decided to refuse the patch. BAD MOVE! the game said "The game will now close" without a single menu followed. And ever since, the game refuses to load.

That's one damn clever way of forcing people to patch their game.... I thought steam was bad.

Wow, that's not good.

Yeah i heard some people had problems with the patch. I guess the only thing to do is re-install it, shut everything you can down (antivirus etc.) and try re-downloading the patch. Maybe your antivirus was interfering or something was messing with it

Yeh those auto-patches are sort of anti-piracy but on the other hand it annoys people who bought the original .No one is happy this way.

I will keep my hands away from it untill I get word of Rockstar.

I could watch Titanic in the time it takes to re-install LA.N

Just found this.

"1.Navigate to C :P rogram FilesRockstar GamesL.A. Noire

2.Remove any file with a .patched extension

3.Remove Social Club v1.0.X.0 Setup.exe

4.Run Patch_2382_XXXXX_1.exe

5.Press Update

6.Start Game via launcher

If the same thing happens, uninstall and re-install the full game and attempt to patch.  If the same problem happens, repeat steps 1-6 above after consulting the tips below."

Borrowed from http://support.rockstargames.com/entrie ... ire-for-pc

I tried that, and RS replied also with that trick but it didn't work either..

I'm now trying to update MS net framework and C++ Perhaps it works. Fingers crossed!

One last thing I want to ask you, I bet you still have the game installed.

Everyone is mentioning on the internet that I need to install the patch manually and that it can be found inside the root directory of LA.N.

But what they forget is that people who can't even run the game won't be able to download it so I don't have this file.

And from what I know, it takes an IQ of 386 to upload this file manually as no one was able to upload it.

If you still have the game installed, could you please upload the patch to me using filedropper or something similar?

Then I could try installing the patch.

it should be called Patch_2382_02393_1.exe

Thanks a lot for the help you gave already!

Finally!

After a lot of struggle, I found some fix at a website that game developers don't like and installed it.

The game ran, and prompted for the patch again, I guessed it wouldn't harm to try anyway, even last 2 attempts failed.

And surprisingly the patch downloaded 100% and now the game works!

At last!

When I'm done playing I'll upload the patch file here in case any fellow googler with the same issue comes across this page.
