Mafia II - Taxi Ride

IS it worth to mod Mafia II Taxi

A real working taxi ride, with a driver that bring you where you asked him to go,
and have to pay for it.Is what I mean by Taxi Ride (as I have seen many fake video around.)

Now, my point is to know who will be interested by having Mafia II real working Taxi ?
I am actually working on it, and just to know if it is worth for me to do a proper mod or shall I just
go injector version of it

The outcoming of that question will radically change the way I'll do the code and finalization of it.

So if possible to do,Anybody interested in a Taxi Mod for Mafia II or not ?
thanx for answering so I know what to do, or if you have information of what as already been
achieved in mafia 2 regarding taxi.

I'd love to see a full working, proper Taxi, BTW, look in the "Balls&Beans" FMV, the full detailed Taxi, even with the counter on the dashbaord, is in that file, if you can pull the high detailed Taxi from that file, and replace it with the lower detailed model that cruises the city, and made it all function, that would be 10 stars! :cheer:

Good job, that would be a breakthrough with Mafia 2 modding. I would like to have an ability to call a taxi and go wherever I want Smile BTW, how are you going to make Vito able to tell the driver where to go ?

B) Well,I am in this mafia lua for 10 days no more, so I am pretty a modding newbe, I don't call or stop the cab yet, I just enter the taxi the passenger way, and once inside I press one of the key I recorded my destination on in my script with keybinding. at start the taxi was getting me there but it had to do a few Uturns along the way, because I had to do a loop in the code for it to get to the destination, as the game kept asking to go somewhere else, but the taxi was getting there Wink

I said [strike]was[/strike], because I've got it now, and the driver get me where I want like a charm; I can even give him few extra box, to put some weight on is foot and forget about the red lights Blush

So if I do a proper mod, I think of a menu as in the freeride to select the italian, chinatown ... area and then more precise recorded destination within the selected. I just need to do a menu that's all.
But now saying that,my idea is to improve that with the ability to hail by lifting the arm an incomming cab in the street, and/or to use the phone to call one.
I know ride in the back is possible as well.
and the Cherry on the cake will be to click onto the map instead of pre-recorded ...

That would be good, selecting districts and calling a taxi by phone will make it more realistic Smile Good luck with this mod, ocram :cheer:

As another idea, could you... make the Taxi driver, drive to where ever your waypoint is at? Cause it sounds like a headache for you and the user, to go through menu's and locations, would be very simple, to set your waypoint, and the driver will take you there.

yeah, exactly, this is what I am saying in the spoiler, by the cherry on the cake will be to use the click on the map, but for now I haven't been able too, its one of my goal do B)

[hide]yep,did my search and found it thx , it is Quicksilver_Windsor_Taxi_HIGH_interior00, I can probably pool the model out of the file, but then what can I do with it, taking it out will destroy it for the game, as you'll loose collision and lightmap, it 'll be nice in 3ds max thats about all, so no point doing it, I can try to use it ingame from the fmv do, with script, it is fmv0700a_2.sds that got its secret.[/hide]
if failed, it is still possible to swap at least 3 textures from it onto the actual taxi Wink

But well all that is 'finalisation', the important part for now is that I need to learn:

[*]how to unload properly all the thing from memory, icons function ...etc
[*]how to get position of the nav marker on map, for the cab to follow the track, if I want to use other thing than the actual destination menu.
[*]The phone as well as to be learn, to call the cab. activate phone and script from a call, store the Taxi number,..etc
[*]how to stop a car type in the street by doing an animation
[*]...

With a simple menu or actuall keybind, the mod is already working and could be released, but doing it right is going to add a few months onto it I think Sick

I will thx, It takes time but well I find many things along the way, the cat and its animation, same for the dog but he only barks and jump over a fence I think.The game hold as well a racing mode that can probably be started from the main menu the same way as freeride, .. vito can sell things over the phone !? etc funny and weard things.

of course the video above, only show path finding in 'nervous driving mod', in normal driving they go spot on first time Wink

you want to do it in the "free ride"? it takes a lot of places in the script
in the video do not show you how you get into a car
and there are no menus to choose travel
All that you show it made ??using the "injector"

Just testing drivers abilities here.
I do not know which file I will use to put the mod into the game yet.
and yes I asked my destination with injector,same for vito arm animation.
I can do menu, but I am trying to get phone and map navigation click instead if I can.

As far as I know you can not do it in the game
you have to change a lot of parameters and set the routes
it does not really
can do it in a "free ride" but as I wrote to you it would take too much space in the script

I am not using 'hunter' or 'followtrail' (where you have to set routes, that the the car follow).
I just give the destination coordinate to the taxi, and he goes there by himself.

I understand what you mean by the space taken in the freeride, but I don't mind, if there is no other way to put it into the game, I 'll just stay with an injector version of it Wink

I carry on searching, if we can use the user marker for nav. and the use of the phone to call a taxi.
I am searching as well on how to identify a car type, that pass in front of you in the street.

@Cole, yes that's what I was showing, when you ask them to drive nervously, they keep bumping things and do uturns because they miss their way.

@Zahar yes I saw all those phone.lua in houses and shops,[hide] luadec gives me hard times 'missing '='
I keep trying do ...[/hide]But well I think the phone will not be so hard to use, it is the navigation user marker the biggest trouble.
